Vacancy – Economic Officer

The Netherlands Trade and Investment Office (NTIO) - the formal representation of the Netherlands government in Taiwan - has a vacancy for an Economic Officer. Reporting directly to the head of office, his/her primary tasks will be trade facilitation between Dutch and Taiwanese companies, focus on specific industry sectors, and coordination of promotional and Holland Branding activities. He/she is expected to be a university graduate with earlier working experience (3 years minimum) in the public or private sector. We are looking for a team player with strong social and communicative skills, eloquent in written and spoken English, who look to be part of a dynamic, open and multicultural working environment.

B. Job Description:

  • The Economic Officer is responsible for trade facilitation between Dutch and Taiwanese companies, including answering inquiries about the Taiwanese market, match-making, business partner scans, and market analysis.


  • Is in charge of the industry sectors Green Energy, Water Management and Environmental Protection: She or he is expected to develop in-depth knowledge about these sectors, including regulatory issues, and identifies new business opportunities for Dutch companies in these sectors.


  • Organizes Holland Branding activities and sectoral promotion events, and is expected to participate in the planning process with ideas.


  • Stays updated with changes in government regulations relevant to specific sectors and communicates with Dutch industry and government. 
  • Assists with the program of incoming missions from the Netherlands or outgoing missions from Taiwan.


  • Organizes visits to local government and companies, and is expected to work closely with other departments in organizing joint promotional activities.


  • Participates in networking and relationship-building activities with government agencies, institutes and companies in order expand NTIO’s relations in these sectors.


C. Knowledge & Skill Requirements

  • Earlier working experience with Taiwanese public and/or private sector, preferably in the sectors of Green Energy, Environmental Protection or Water Management.
  • Relevant network of contacts in Taiwan
  • Basic understanding of the Taiwanese government authorities
  • Experience in both verbal and written reporting 
  • Experience with organizing events like trade shows, seminars and networking events
  • International working or study experience is an advantage.

E. Level of Education / additional knowledge

  • University level
  • Native Chinese & fluent English
  • Affinity and/or familiarity with the Netherlands is an advantage.


F. Work environment:

The Economic Officer reports directly to the Head of the Economic Department / Representative of NTIO and works in a team of three economic officers. He/she will be part of a dynamic, open, multicultural and trilingual working environment. Open and frequent communication between departments is NTIO’s prerogative for successful cooperation and joint accomplishments.

The Netherlands Trade and Investment office (NTIO) is the formal representation of the government of the Netherlands in Taiwan. Its mission is to promote and support cooperation between Taiwanese and Dutch institutions and companies in the field of commerce, investment, science & technology, culture, and education. The NTIO also facilitates exchanges in public governance best-practices between the Netherlands and Taiwan. In addition, the NTIO handles visa applications and consular matters for Taiwanese, Dutch and third-country nationals.
